AI Data Centre Project Tracker From Announcement to Operation
Our selected tracker compares dated announcements, construction records and operational milestones for AI data centres. This selected sample records each status exactly as its dated source asserted, with source publication dates retained for context. It avoids assuming every planned facility is already available.

Our selected tracker compares dated announcements, construction records and operational milestones for AI data centres. This selected sample records each status exactly as its dated source asserted, with source publication dates retained for context.
Scope and method
This is a dated public-document tracker covering a selected sample, not a global ranking or an exhaustive list. Each entry records the status asserted in the source on its publication date; it does not assume a current status, and it does not treat one completed building as completion of an entire campus. Where a company describes its own performance or benefits, that is a vendor assertion, not an independently verified outcome.
Project status table
One row per project, with the exact status asserted and the source dates.
| Project | Reported dates | Status as asserted | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Abilene Stargate (Texas) | 21 Jan 2025; 22 Jul 2025; 23 Sep 2025; 14 Oct 2025 | Buildout underway starting in Texas; parts of the facility up and running, with early training and inference workloads begun | OpenAI Jan 2025; OpenAI Jul 2025; OpenAI Sep 2025; Oracle Oct 2025 |
| Mount Pleasant (Wisconsin) | 23 Jun 2026 | First datacenter facility construction completed, fully operational; second adjacent facility under construction, completion scheduled 2028 | Microsoft Jun 2026 |
| Waltham Cross (Hertfordshire, UK) | 18 Jan 2024; 16 Sep 2025 | Investment announced; later reported opened | Google Jan 2024; Google Sep 2025 |
From 2025 plans to a 2026 operational building
The Stargate announcements describe an evolving programme. January 2025 set out a new company intending to invest in US AI infrastructure, with buildout underway in Texas and further sites under evaluation (OpenAI). July 2025 added an Oracle agreement for additional Stargate capacity and reported that parts of Abilene were up and running, with Oracle delivering NVIDIA GB200 racks (OpenAI). September 2025 announced five new sites and stated that Abilene was up and running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OpenAI). Oracle separately stated that its OCI Zettascale10 cluster was developed and deployed first at Abilene (Oracle). These are vendor descriptions of partial operational use at one campus, not statements that the full Stargate programme is built.
Microsoft reported its first Mount Pleasant facility fully operational in June 2026, while keeping its second facility under construction. Its separate Fairwater feature describes connecting Wisconsin and Atlanta sites. Our assessment is that a networked infrastructure programme must not be counted as a single finished building.
Commitments, campus power and operational buildings
Project programmes, announced investment and campus-level power plans are not the same as operational buildings. OpenAI's announcements describe multi-site programmes and multi-year commitments; Oracle's data centre page describes campus-level community, water and energy commitments; and the IEA explains that data centres are defined by their IT and supporting equipment, and that a data centre can be operational in two to three years while energy infrastructure needs longer lead times (Oracle) (IEA). Google's Waltham Cross posts show the same gap in a simpler form: a 2024 investment announcement and a 2025 opening statement (Google) (Google).
Buyer checklist and editorial assessment
The following is our editorial assessment and a recommendation, not a finding from the sources. For each project, record the publication date, the exact status wording, whether the claim covers a single building or a whole campus, and who is asserting it. Do not treat a company's silence in one document as evidence that an activity has not occurred; the sources here do not state such absences.
